Summer Luxury Program

Hermes Flagship Store in New York

During my sophomore year at VCU I heard about the summer luxury program offered that took place for two weeks in Richmond ad two weeks in New York City. The program was focused on learnig all about luxury fashion and branding. We have the opportunity to meet with teams from Verdura, Burberry, Hermès, Saks Off Fifth, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus, Swarovski and many more . It was a incredible opportunity to get to learn more about each brands history, the way they operate, how they market their goods, and ask various questions.

While we were in New York we stayed in the FIT dorms, which was a really cool experience cause it felt like I got a look into how my college experience might have been had I gone to a school in New York. We had two assignments while we were in New York, to write a paper about how cohesive the omni channel of a brand is and to use the research of that brand and compare it to other group members luxury brands, and see where the various brands align and contrast. Our other assignment was to pick four different luxury companies from different sectors and create a buyer persona for someone who would shop at each brand.

I’m extremely grateful that I was able to have the opportunity to be accepted into this summer program and be able to learn and experience all the things I did. Being in New York made me realize I really want to move to a big city after college where there is a lot going on and tons of opportunities. I loved learning more in depth about the luxury sector and I’m very interested in doing something within luxury.
